Washington State Legislature to Hold Special Session

The legislature will not be able to finalize a budget by midnight tonight, the official cut-off for this legislative session.  The fate of an increase in the B&O tax on business services is still unknown, but that remains a key piece of the negotiations between the House and Senate.

0.5% B&O Increase for WA Accountants

In its budget proposal released Monday, March 1, the Washington State House proposed a 0.5% increase in the B&O for accountants, among a handful of other services.

WSCPA response letter sent to all members of the House.

“The WSCPA has been extremely effective as an advocate for our profession and its members. The WSCPA has monitored state and national legislation, alerted members to pending detrimental rule changes and worked hard to positively influence the outcome. Similarly, the WSCPA has built a strong working relationship with the Washington State Board of Accountancy, resulting in regulatory revisions that are win/win outcomes for both the public and the profession. Recent examples of effective WSCPA advocacy for its members and the profession include the national mobility issue and the out of state California tax return preparation regulations. Our firm is very appreciative of the proactive leadership role WSCPA plays on national and state regulatory advocacy.”
