1972-1973 Ralph W. Garhart

Ralph William Garhart passed away peacefully on February 3, 2016 at the age of 93. He was born on November 21, 1922 in Portland Oregon to Ralph W. Garhart Sr. and Elizabeth Monteith Garhart. His family moved to Roseburg Oregon in 1929 where his father died in 1931. He was raised by his widowed mother, a caring dedicated Registered Nurse, and graduated from Roseburg High School in 1940. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in December, 1941 and served in various capacities until November, 1945. He attended the University of Washington on the G.I. Bill, where he was president of the Beta Alpha Psi accounting fraternity and a Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated in 1950 Magna Cum Laude. He worked three years for a Portland CPA firm and returned to Seattle in 1953 to work for Ralph Peterson, who formed the Peterson, Sullivan CPA firm. He served as Board Chair of the Washington Society of CPAs from 1972-1973 and was active in that organization throughout his career. He retired as Managing Partner of Peterson and Sullivan in 1987, but continued to work as a consultant at the firm until he was 90 years old.

Ralph was an avid fly fisherman and golfer and pursued these passions with great gusto. He was a member of Overlake Golf and Country Club and played there as well as many courses around the Puget Sound. Ralph was also an avid sports fan, and was a long-time Husky Tyee Club football season ticket holder. He loved spending time with family and friends, and of course his beloved pets. He was a kind, caring compassionate man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Ralph is survived by his wife Molly and her children John Calbom and wife Cherie, Susan Calbom and husband Geoff Keeler, and Linda Calbom, as well as Susan's three sons, Tyler, Jordan and Mitchell and their families. He is also survived by his stepson Riley Noonan, his wife Diane, and their children Kelley and Kevin. The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale Senior Living in Gig Harbor, as well as Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassionate care of Ralph in his final days and their kindness to his family members. Remembrances may be made to Franciscan Hospice, the Humane Society or the University of Washington Medical Center.

A celebration of Ralph's life will be on March 5, 2016, 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Harbor Place at Cottesmore, Gig Harbor, WA 98335
