Are you looking for a new opportunity to utilize your accounting expertise? Do you want to make a difference for the CPA profession? Look no further! The Washington State Board of Accountancy is currently accepting applications for two upcoming vacancies.

The Board is comprised of nine members appointed by the governor for three-year terms. Members can serve up to three successive terms. There are several qualifications outlined in the Public Accountancy Act (RCW 18.04.035) including a requirement that six of the nine members hold a certified public accountant license for a minimum of ten years. Public members hold the remaining three positions. All members must be a Washington resident.

“Board members are recruited from diverse backgrounds and skill sets.”

Apart from the residency and certification requirements, Executive Director Charles Satterlund, CPA, CIA, says that there is "a need for CPAs versed in a broad number of areas such as attest, compilation, tax and other areas covered under professional standards. There is also a need for CPAs who have experience working in the private sector and those who have experience in peer review. Board members are recruited from diverse backgrounds and skill sets. Gender, ethnic, and cultural diversity are important considerations, as well as ensuring geographic representation for all regions within our state.”

He adds, “One of the greatest benefits to serving on the Board is the opportunity for members to be involved in making an impact on emerging issues that shape our profession."

Commenting on the importance of serving, WSCPA President and CEO, Kimberly Scott notes that having “a strong and knowledgeable state board is essential to both the profession and the public. Such a board is dependent on CPAs who are willing to serve and have the experience necessary to understand the nuances of the profession.”
