The Certified Public Accountant Political Action Committee (CPAPAC) and WSCPA members are currently in the throes of delivering PAC contributions and meeting with legislators before the November election. Whether you contribute to the CPAPAC annually, are a key contact for your district, or attend Hill Day, all contribute to successful advocacy! If you are wondering why your contribution matters or if it makes a difference, here are just three reasons why it is so important to invest in the CPAPAC and, ultimately, the profession.

1. “If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu.”

WSCPA keeps its ear to the ground year round to stay aware of what is happening in the state. The legislative and regulatory landscape is constantly changing, and it is crucial to have a strong presence when elected officials are making decisions that affect the profession. We attend quarterly Washington State Board of Accountancy meetings, testify in legislative committee hearings, and participate in work groups. Sitting at the table and participating in important and relevant conversations is crucial to successful advocacy initiatives.

2. The CPAPAC sets the profession apart.

One voice is easily lost in a sea of others. Contributing to the CPAPAC creates a powerful narrative of thousands of members collectively representing the profession. WSCPA advocacy is successful because of the community that works together to move the profession forward.

3. Contributing to the CPAPAC helps build relationships.

One of the most important reasons to contribute to the CPAPAC is the relationships that are built. When the CPAPAC contributes to elected officials, members who are also constituents meet with their legislators to deliver the contribution. This looks different in the virtual world that we are currently living in, but the conversations and impact are the same. WSCPA members are a community of diverse individuals around the state who are experts in areas that legislators are not. Legislators want to hear from their constituents especially those who have specialized knowledge in various areas.
