Networking is the key to finding a job, clients, friends…and that once in a lifetime partner.
The New Professional’s Committee hosts monthly networking events April through November. Although the events are fun and relaxed, the idea is to build your professional contacts and sharpen your networking skills in a relaxed atmosphere. Every month 60-200 WSCPA members get together at these events, enjoying the venues, entertainment, food and beverages. Every month creates another great story.
I have heard countless stories over the last few years of students getting internships, professionals finding new jobs, and friendships being created. Often people outside of our event will come up and ask about the profession or where they can find a CPA for their business. I also have one GREAT story about finding true love!
At the annual BBQ in July 2008 (This year’s is Friday, July 16th!), a boy met a girl. They participated in a three legged race and became friends. Over the next year their relationship blossomed and right before the annual picnic in 2009, the boy took the girl back to the same spot they met and proposed. She said yes and this August they will tie the knot! It has been fun for us to watch this relationship.
Obviously this is a rare occurrence, but you never know what will happen if you get out and mingle. If you haven’t been to an event, make sure you sign up. Worst case scenario? You will enjoy great company, eat food, and hopefully laugh a little! If you are curious about the boy and girl…if you come to the picnic on the 16th there is a great chance you will meet them. http://www.wscpa.org/Content/WSCPACommunity/MemberEvents.aspx
