In Skagit County, we have requests for CPAs to help with the following:
Northwest Alliance for College Access is hosting a FAFSA assistance event on February 2nd from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Mt. Vernon High School. They recently hosted a similar event in Bellingham and found having CPAs from a local firm on-site was helpful. Tax support volunteers provide on-site tax support. This may include answering tax related questions and helping attendees fill out tax forms. Tax information is required for FAFSA's completion and many families in the target populations struggle with the complex nature of tax procedures. Online training and a preview of the form can be provided. Contact Sharon Camblin for more information at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Junior Achievement has requested volunteers to teach basic economics, financial literacy and entrepreneurship. The lessons and a short training are provided. The time commitment is 5 sessions of about 45 minutes. Scheduling is to be determined by the volunteer and teacher. The local schools with needs include:
2nd grade at Jefferson Elementary in Mount Vernon
3rd grade at Immaculate Conception School in Mount Vernon
Elementary school classes in Burlington, Sedro-Woolley and Oak Harbor.
