Overview

A presentation is a great opportunity to influence the thinking of others, as well as to advance your career. In the Persuasive Presentations course, we cover the essentials of how to make a polished, effective presentation. Topics covered include the process flow for the construction of a great presentation, preparation techniques, how to engage with the audience, how to improve your body language, and much more.

Objectives

Recognize the methods available for learning more about the audience. Specify how to change the behavior of the audience. Specify how a presentation should be adjusted when the audience is senior managers. Describe the various parts of a presentation, and what each one should contain. Recognize the reasons for using different types of visuals in a presentation. Identify the methods that can be used to enhance the quality of visuals. Specify how a presentation should be adjusted when it is scheduled for late in the day. Recognize the various preparation steps to work through just before a presentation begins. Identify the methods for improving one’s performance in a question and answer session. Recognize the ways in which one can obtain information about the impact of a presentation. Describe how to deal with a difficult audience member. Specify how one’s eye communication with the audience can be improved.

Steven Bragg, Western CPE

Steven M. Bragg, CPA, is a full-time book and course author who has written more than 70 business books. He provides Western CPE with self-study courses in the areas of accounting and finance, with an emphasis on the practical application of accounting standards and management techniques. A sampling of his courses include the The New Controller Guidebook, The GAAP Guidebook, Accountants’ Guidebook, and Closing the Books: An Accountant’s Guide. He also manages the Accounting Best Practices podcast.

Steven has been the CFO or controller of both public and private companies and has been a consulting manager with Ernst & Young and an auditor with Deloitte & Touche. He holds an MBA from Babson College, a Master of Finance from Bentley College, and a BA from the University of Maine (summa cum laude).
