John R. Plymyer (1931-2019)

John passed away peacefully September 10, 2019 at his home in Cool, California, with his family by his side. John and his wife of 67 years, Lois, have lived on the Divide since 1996.

Born and raised in York, Pennsylvania, John came to California via the Navy during the Korean War. After the war, John attended Long Beach State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. John later received a master’s degree, also in education. He became a school teacher and later a principal but changed careers to association management in his thirties. John became the Executive Director of the Washington Society of CPAs in 1984 and retired in 1996.

Moving to the Divide in 1996 is when his passion for volunteering really began. John was active and volunteered for many clubs and organizations including Rotary, SIRS, Black Oak Mine School District, Auburn Lake Trails (ALT) liaison to Georgetown Divide Public Utility District (GDPUD), ALT board member and President, El Dorado County Grand Jury, and most recently, President of Music on the Divide.

John is survived by his wife Lois of Cool, California; sons, Tom of North Bend, Oregon; and John D. of Cool, California; daughter, Carol of Kirkland, Washington; 6 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.

There will be a celebration of John’s life on Oct. 12, 2019 at 12:00 p.m., at the Barnloft in Auburn Lake Trails, Cool, California.
