Small independent project seeking help with 501(c)(3) nonprofit formation
Solid Ground seeks a volunteer CPA with nonprofit formation experience to help guide our Washington incorporation and IRS 501(c)(3) application. We welcome assistance with the full process or specific components, including referrals for legal review.

We are preparing to incorporate as a Washington nonprofit and seek federal 501(c)(3) recognition. We are seeking a CPA with nonprofit formation experience who would be willing to provide pro bono guidance and assistance with this process.
Areas where we would welcome assistance include:
- Evaluating our eligibility for 501(c)(3) recognition and whether Form 1023-EZ or Form 1023 would be appropriate.
- Guiding us through the nonprofit formation process and preparing or reviewing the IRS application.
- Advising on financial reporting, bookkeeping, and compensation arrangements appropriate for a small nonprofit.
- Helping us identify any additional professional review needed, particularly regarding board governance, bylaws, and incorporation documents.
Ideally, we would like to work with someone who can guide us through much of the process and, where legal expertise is required, coordinate with or refer us to an attorney. All work will be conducted remotely via Zoom and email.
Solid Ground currently generates a small amount of membership revenue, but we do not have a meaningful operating budget at this time. We have a three-person leadership team and one administrative volunteer, and we are prepared to handle administrative tasks ourselves to keep the volunteer commitment manageable.
We would be grateful for assistance with the full process or with specific components, depending on the volunteer’s experience and availability. We welcome an initial conversation to discuss the scope of assistance and how best to proceed.
