Santa is known for making his list and checking it twice, but he’s not the only one who needs to take a second look at the items on his to-do list.

List-making is a popular way to keep track of your daily activities, but overly long lists could deter your progress in crossing items off the list. WSCPA member Molly Andler stresses the importance of keeping her daily priorities manageable.

“The start of every morning I make my list of what I want to accomplish for the day and I make sure the goals are reachable. Meaning, I don’t make the list too long,” Andler explains. “If I complete the list, then I move on to additional items in my office. This helps me keep on track of my daily priorities and builds confidence after checking off each item on my list.”

There’s a feel-good factor in reaching daily goals, especially when those activities help develop trust and build relationships with clients. Being a CPA isn’t just knowing numbers, although many people outside the profession don’t see it that way.

“People constantly think we are just number crunchers,” Andler laments. “I mean, I am good at using the 10-Key, but we do so much more. From tax preparation for individuals and businesses, to audits of financial statements, tax planning, resolving IRS matters, bookkeeping services, etc. We are here to serve our clients and help them succeed.”

Andler’s passion for helping her clients keeps her on track and focused on her daily to-do list, but when it’s time to unwind, nothing beats family time.

“I’m a CPA, but first and foremost I am a wife, and a mom to a young son. Spending time with my boys helps me recharge and unwind. They are the reason I work as hard as I do.”

With plenty to juggle between home and work, it makes even more sense that Andler would spend the extra time to make her list, check it twice and get the most out of every day.
