The U.S. Supreme Court is considering a case that challenges the constitutionality of the individual mandate under The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). Accordingly, any ACA-related income taxes paid in prior years, including the individual shared responsibility penalty, may be refundable if a claim for refund is filed in a timely manner. The Auditing Standards Board (ASB) agreed to defer implementation of the seven most recently issued Statements on Auditing Standards (SASs). SAS Nos. 134-140, which substantially change the auditor’s report, will be deferred one year and are now generally effective for audits of calendar year-end 2021 financial statements.
